Happy Stitchmas in July {southern maryland photographer}

Do you know yet about StitchFix? I’ve hashed it out for the last few months, so if you’ve followed I won’t bore you again, but for the ‘new guys’, here’s the short of it:
Go to StitchFix [use my referral link so they give me an affiliate credit, if you don’t mind?]. Fill out a questionnaire, which takes 10-15 minutes, tops. Schedule your shipment. It’ll cost $20 for the service, but that $20 gets applied to any of the five items you keep. Keep all five and get 25% off the whole thing. It ships. You try on the five pieces, even if you think you don’t like them straight out of the box. Send back what you don’t want within three days in the prepaid envelope. That’s it! GREAT service.

When I pulled this out of the box, *swoon*. The colors are my kind of colors!

I had plans this month to have photos of myself in all of the pieces. The mirror I planned to use for said photos of myself in said pieces? A child or a dog managed to step on my mirror after it was somehow knocked over, and so it is shattered. Maybe I even stepped on it? Anyway…

Love. I like simple pieces that don’t require much more than me slinging it over my neck. This one is even better than that. It’s two-sized so I can wear smooth side or hammered side. YES. But it also has little latches that slide so the chain can be extended or shortened. So necklines on shirts suddenly don’t matter. So much goodness.

Basic Tshirt you think, right? Except the sleeves are not cotton. They’re awesome. Great for looking polished on the weekends or being dressed up a little bit for casual Fridays at the office.

So let’s talk about this top for a minute. In “the stack” it was zipped up to the neck. And since it crosses the body to zip, it was a little confusing. And I was having a “WTF were you thinking, Holly?!” moment. And then I saw the zipper. And the crease in the fabric. Yep, this is one of those things I would 100000% never ever grab for myself if I was shopping – ha, like that ever happens [soapbox: this is another reason why Stitch Fix is SO GOOD]. Anyway, Holly pushed my boundaries and re-established new boundary lines. This will be great for work and weddings and weekends and bridal showers and and and…

I pinned this one to my Pinterest board and was stoked to get it in my box. I know a bunch of other bloggers have noticed similar ones at Target for a lower cost. So let’s address that and I’ll soapbox a little. If I go to Target, I swear there is a gas in their buildings that force you to buy things you had no intention of purchasing before arrival. So it could be true that the shirt is half as expensive. But let’s be real: it will cost more than the shirt alone because there will be cute sandals for “ONLY $24.98”. You all know what I’m talking about. Not to mention that requires actually stepping foot into a store. And trying clothes on. While getting laundry detergent. With kids and a husband. Yea, no. So back to the top: Love it. Will wear probably a million times.

Last but not least:
Kensie Thea Dress

My birthday is this month so I told Holly in my stylist note that I wanted a random splurge item. And boy did she deliver. This one I had not yet seen on all the StitchFix blogs I follow and I was pleasantly surprised. This dress feels like it was cut for my body. It’s so perfect. The colors are glorious. Purple never was a favorite color, but it tends to be one that works best with my complexion and hair/eyes. I can wear this to work. I can throw on some flip flops and wear it grocery shopping. I will love this forever.

If you haven’t tried StitchFix yet, why are you waiting!?!? Treat yourself. For the cost of three cups of overpriced coffee, you can have your very own personal stylist. Get with it ladies, you NEED this! And you don’t have to get a shipment monthly. You can get just one. Get one a quarter. Get one monthly. One every 2-3 weeks. Heck, I’ve seen some ladies that have two accounts so they can get one for work clothes and one for weekend clothes and they come every 10ish days. You can set it up for clothes only or allow accessories — I asked for no earrings and no purses/bags. I may add earrings after a while, but I tend to just leave the same studs in daily. And no purses — I know my limits and I’m far too lazy to swap out bags to match my clothes thankyouverymuch. You should really get on the bandwagon because you’ll squeal when you get the shipment deliveries, too, even if you don’t feel like you will.

Stitch Fix Friday {southern maryland photographer}

So my favorite day for myself every month was yesterday! If you don’t know about Stitch Fix, you’re missing out! You can read about it in my prior blogs, but the short of it is: $20/mo for a personal stylist. Five items show up tailored to your online profile and through styles you post on a dedicated Pinterest board. Keep any or all of the five items. The $20 goes to the cost of anything you keep. You get 25% off if you keep all five. THE BEST.

I have to just dive right in; this month was so good!
So this totally cute box shows up at my doorstep.

And inside of it is a stack of lovely goodness.

Without further ado:
Black Dear John Lillie Short
I can’t lie. When I saw these in the stack, I just groaned. Loud. I requested specifically from my stylist (the totally awesome Rock N Roll Holly who clearly knows me better than I know myself!) some shorts for an upcoming week at the beach. On my exercise journey, I’ve reshaped how my body looks & feels, so the bermudas on my lumpy butt aren’t necessary any longer! But I also am not a booty-short fan. I’m a mother of three in my thirties; ain’t my thing. Anyway, the shorts — I’ve also never liked denim shorts. Except, does that tag say “Made in the USA”? Except, how many times has Holly proven me wrong before I learn to just trust her? So on they go. And here they shall stay! They fit beautifully, the right length, they aren’t too thick anywhere, and they are actually kinda cute. WAY better than I expected when folded into “the stack”.

Black Renee C Zia Printed Maxi Skirt
Let’s just say YES immediately. This is the first thing that caught my eye and I immediately tried it on. I didn’t even change my shirt (which, suffice it to say, did not match the skirt at all!). Maxis are always so tricky for me because I’m short, and while some are okay with a wedge, sometimes I just want to wear some damn flip flops. This skirt, oh this skirt — yep, works with bare feet so it’ll definitely come in handy on vacation over a bathing suit! Yep, hanging up already!

Off-white Market & Spruce Corby Knit Tee
Meh, I knew right away that I did not love this shirt. It’s a weird mix of graphic tee and really thin, cute, awesome non-sweater sweater. If it didn’t have the French on the chest, I’d be in love. It fits beautifully (of course it does; this brand was apparently made for my body, even through the changes) and feels pretty great. I kept it. I’m still not sure it’ll stay here.

VERDICT: KEPT (but may consider tossing on the facebook BST site as there’s an apparent demand)

Coral Collective Concepts May Chevron Print Knit Back Top
Second on my body out of this box, and second 100% sure keeper. Yes, it’s kinda boxy on me (you can see the form of it when it’s hanging). Yes, it offers no shape to anyone. However, this allows for fitted bottoms and belting. And it works with the new shorts I didn’t know I’d love. The color? Oh swoon. Yep, she’s already stowed away as a staple.

Black 41Hawthorn Queensland Dolman Jersey Top
This is the softest thing I’ve ever felt. I was glad to see black, just plain ol’ black, because that’s where my heart always goes! And I’ve received so many wonderful bottoms over the months (I’m already on fix #8!!!), plus the things I already had, so this black worked out perfectly. I just don’t want any more Dolman tops. This is the third in my fixes and that’s enough for me. 🙂

Another five for five, Ms. Holly. I want to tell you to knock it off, but let’s be honest: I LOVE IT.

May Stitch Fix {southern Maryland photographer}

My favorite day of the month has come again! My monthly fix arrived and to say that this month was a home run would be an understatement. If you’re new to the notion of Stitch Fix, here’s how it works:
You fill out a pretty quick and easy little questionnaire with sizes, styles, and preferences on costs. You schedule your fix. Then you wait a few weeks and you get a lovely little box in the mail. box
Inside of it is goodness and love and awesomeness. You are charged a $20 styling fee and that goes to the cost of any item you purchase. Try on everything. Keep what you like, send back what doesn’t work within three days. If you keep all five items, you get a 25% off discount. And I don’t know about you, but I sure hate shopping with three boys and trying to find something that looks good on me. This is the perfect “fix” [pardon the pun!] for that! So give it a whirl: Stitch Fix

Your stylist gives you little cards like this:
letter
And on the folding cards are outfit ideas on how to style your new pieces. They make mention to prior pieces as well so you can make outfits from what they know you have!

This gorgeous stack was inside of my box! Ghee, so gorgeous!

SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO…
Gold Bay to Baubles Cori Chevron Stretch Bracelet
This is the perfect little touch to any outfit, alone or in conjunction with other pieces. I’m wearing it right now. That it has no links and just stretches onto my wrist makes it that much more lovable.

White Daniel Rainn Bilson Pleated Blouse
Yes. Just yes. The pleats are so feminine. Look at the colors!!! Coral and blue and white and YUM. And something that I totally loved about this blouse (as if the look of it wasn’t enough!) — it came with a camisole. When I first pulled it out of the box, I thought it was some heavy thing that was totally inappropriate for MD springs and summers. Nope! The matching camisole was attached inside. For me? HUGE.

Grey Mystree Kiria Mixed Material Tee
I saw some open-back tee shirts on Pinterest [huge way to communicate with your stylist!] and wanted one so bad. This one is great. It’s pretty flouncy and breezy, and was important to me that I could wear a bra underneath, so the opening had to be just low enough. My tattoos are on display in a lovely and ladylike fashion now. 🙂 Isn’t this back just to die for?

Blue Pixley Milagra Ribbon Strap Blouse
I don’t have to mention that the straps are ribbon and amazing. Or point out that the color of this is so wonderfully vibrant while being so daintily ladylike. Because this picture displays fully why it’s so great and why I am in love.

And lastly, but not least:
White Pixley Martina Slub Knit Open Cardigan
When something uses the phrase “slub knit” in clothing, that becomes for me, apparently, an instant magnetic love attraction that I can’t break. This cardigan has POCKETS. I repeat: POCKETS. Somewhere to store keys and lip balm and cell phone [since that bugger doesn’t fit into my pants pocket any more] for when I’m running around chasing boys or watching lacrosse/football games. This is so perfect for cool mornings and evenings on just about anything. Matches just about anything and everything, can be dressed up or down, and instantly I’m in love.

Stitch Fix #5 {southern maryland photographer}

And so today is one of my favorite days every month. My arrived today. And had we not needed to leave in only a few minutes for Graham’s lacrosse game, I’d have checked out and posted this hours ago. Holly knocked it out of the park!

Without further ado…
bauble 2

bauble
Bancroft Leighton Metal Bauble Necklace ($34)
Kept. How much fun is this little gem? Yea, kinda costly overall, but with a 25% Buy 5 Discount… Not to mention I’m pretty lazy about latches, and so the ability to slip this over my noggin and keep moving is an added invaluable bonus.

ackley
41Hawthorn Ackley Houndstooth Print Bouse ($68).
Kept. Sigh. Am I ever going to get past loving all things black & white? Not likely. Way to kill it here, Holly. Dressed up or down this is a winner and will be a long-time staple in the wardrobe. My black jeans from Fix #1 and some black flats… yep, my brain is already working on the countless outfit pairings for this shirt!

carlie
Mono Reno Carlie Hooded VVest ($58).
Kept. How cute is this hoodie vest!?!? My children and husband (and BFF) mock me when I wear my vest [Stitch Fix #1 and totally I LOVE that vest. The family already told me this one is cute. I see it paired with jeans and a cozy T and my Toms Paseos on the sidelines. No baseball hats for me, though. The collar is such a cute feminine detail for such a typically masculine style vest. I was eye-balling the basic olive version on the internet for the last few weeks. I’m really glad I held out for Stitch Fix. They nailed it. Again.

ruffle back

ruffle front
Market & Spruce Kristah Ruffle Knit Blazer ($78)
Kept. This is way out of my comfort level for budgets, but again, 25% off. And can we please take a moment to look at the back view here, people? The ruffles are so fun. I will definitely pair this with skirts or jeans or my corduroys (that I wear at least once a week, if not more!). If I didn’t have the boys and I in kinda-matchy-but-not-1995-matching shirts for Easter, this would be worn then, too. Maybe it still will…

I had to save this one for last, because we are having a love affair:
whitnee 1whitnee 2
Loveappella Whitnee Button Neck Striped Shift Dress ($64)
Kept. If I got five of these, I’d probably keep all five. This dress is so amazing. It fits insanely well. It was made in the USA (bonus points!). It will be great for work and for weekends. I had a short-sleeved version (without the too-cute button and overlay detail on the shoulders like this one!) that I wore out when pregnant with T&J so maybe I’m just sentimentally attached to navy & white stripes. I’m a sucker for stripes, too.

So this is #4 out of a total 5 fixes that I’ve kept every single item. Good thing I budget for this monthly, right!? 🙂
Don’t forget to sign up using my referral link: https://www.stitchfix.com/referral/4278451 Yes, they’ll give me a $25 credit. But you will get more out of it than me!

HUGE news in Stitch Fix

This is not photography related, necessary, but something that is ever so exciting for you Moms-to-be now or in the near future! My favorite mail each month is my box. A personal stylist for only $20 and keep what you want, send back the rest. It’s the greatest invention for lazy women that really don’t like to shop any more. Quality products at affordable prices. Sigh….
Moving on. Though it won’t benefit me ever ever ever again, has added MATERNITY styles! They have petite, too…but as a short woman, I never really had issues with the items they were shipping so that is less exciting. So now all you hot moms-to-be can sign up; get some rad awesome cutey-patooty clothes STAT!

Stitch fix

I have a membership with Stitch Fix. It’s exciting, month after month, to get a box of pre-selected clothes from my personal stylist. That’s right. A suburban wife with three kids and four dogs and a job has a personal stylist.
Here’s how it works:
Go here: https://www.stitchfix.com/referral/4278451
Sign up and fill out your “Style Profile” where you answer some really simple questions on your personal styles, sizes, etc.
You can sign up for as frequent or infrequent you want your boxes to ship to you. I tried doing it every other month, but this is like crack, people, and you need more fixes than that!
And then you wait. A $20 stylist fee is charged when your box ships. That $20 is applied to anything you may keep in the box, and is the service fee if you choose to keep nothing (won’t happen). When you *finally* receive your box (only 2-3 days after it ships but always feels like forever to me!), it’s pretty and wrapped in tissue paper and stickers much like a gift to yourself. IMG_1131
From there, you try on the clothes, pairing things with what’s already in your closet, and keep what you want, return in the postage prepaid envelope what you don’t. Personally, the last thing I do is look at the cost. Numbers always turn my stomach. And I have an aversion to spending money on myself. I’m a bargain hunter. So I pull it all out, look at the style card included in each box (your stylist gives you tips to dress each piece up for date night or work and then down for a Saturday at the park with the kids!), and try it all on.

So here is this month’s (my FOURTH) review:
IMG_1135
The style card is such a great marketing tool. Kudos to the genius that came up with it. It’s good inspiration for using the pieces in each Fix and pieces already in my own closet. A tangible Pinterest board.

IMG_1130
This was the Papermoon Wigan Shoulder Zip Knit Top ($48) in Light pink.
I tend to steer away from pink when I’m buying clothes. But this pink is just the faintest hint of pink, more on the gray scale. And the little zippers on the shoulders feel pretty punk-rock without being gross or risking embarrassment for my kids [I save that for very special occasions! ha]. VERDICT: KEPT

IMG_1128
The Le Lis Geoffrey Button Down Top ($48) in blue & pink.
It’s rayon, so the fabric was really great. And while I do not gravitate towards plaids, this one felt really pretty. And then I put it on. And walked to my husband and kids in the family room to mock myself. I felt like I need a mullet, a canned light beer, a cigar or cigarette, and the keys to my 18 wheeler as I ate greasy food in a truck stop diner. Big fat No. Back in the return envelope she goes [so fast I almost forgot to snap this picture]. VERDICT: RETURNED

IMG_1127
IMG_1126
Pixley Carissa Striped Fit & Flare Dress ($64) in Navy.
I loved this in the box. I loved this on the hanger. The little detailing on the sides is great. Very cute but I felt age appropriate. I could see this on me with a blazer and tights and heels or boots, but then with flip flops and a floppy hat on my way to the beach. I tried really hard to not feel like it was a maternity dress when I put it back on. But the puckers in the front just are not flattering on me; they hit right where every piece of maternity clothes should hit, just enough to display that little pouch. VERDICT: RETURNED

IMG_1125
Kut From The Kloth Kate Distressed Boyfriend Jeans ($78)
Boyfriend jeans are fine, for wearing around the house, or a quick trip to the grocery store, or just to my boys’ football/lacrosse games. But I have a few pairs, and really this cut is not flattering on my short squatty frame. I didn’t even try them on. VERDICT: RETURNED

And last, but not least:
IMG_1123

IMG_1124
Mystree Lovella Ruffle Back Cardigan ($64) in Grey
I loved the feel of this cardigan. I loved the fit of the sleeves and the way it kinda slouched in the front, not too tight. But I couldn’t get past the ruffles. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don’t. Sadly for this [admittedly overpriced] cardigan, they don’t work. Not to mention the weird crochet detail. For me? A cardigan is for added warmth. Having the openings kinda defeats the purpose for me. VERDICT: RETURNED

So, for the first time, I didn’t keep all five. If you do keep all five, Stitch Fix offers a 25% discount. So, for instance, with my first Fix, there was a shirt that I was kinda meh about keeping, but if I sent it back the four pieces I **LOVED** would have actually cost more, so I kept the shirt and I think it’ll grow on me by the time spring rolls around and I can actually wear it. So my $20 stylist fee is applied to the sweater, bringing me to $28 today and shipping the rest back Monday (weather pending). Since I’ve checked out, my next Fix is scheduled for next month. I hope it brings with it some warm weather…
